How to Type Bold, Italics, and Strikethrough in WhatsApp on iPhone and Android

WHATSAPP has pushed-out an update for its hugely-successful messenger that brings the ability to send rich text, thanks to competition.

I wouldn’t be wrong if I say that you are one of the billion people using WhatsApp every day. It has been a primary mode of communication for almost everyone. The impressive thing about the WhatsApp is that the developers keep updating it with new features every now and then.

These new feature in the new update with which you can type Bold, Italics, and Strikethrough in WhatsApp on your iPhone and on Android Apps also brings some minor bug fixes – as well as some nifty new formatting options. Lets talk about the new feature and not the bugs. Am sure you have been seeing texts in bold, Italics and also Strikethrough and wondering how you can also do the same without embarrassing yourself by asking. I have you sorted, now lets get on with it.
Step #1. Launch WhatsApp messenger from your iPhone or Android smartphone Home Screen.

Step #2. Select any of your friend with whom you would like to try this new options.

Step #3. Now to add Bold formatting, just add (asterisk) “*” before and after the text. For example, *Hola!*. Hit the Send button, and WhatsApp will automatically make it bold.

Step#4. In order to type in Italics, you’ll need to add (underscore) “_” before and after the text. Same like Bold formatting, WhatsApp will now convert the text to Italics.

Step #5. The last and the final is Strikethrough. In order to use that, you’ll need to add (tilde) “~” before and after the text.

It's not immediately obvious how to access the new options since the app does not include them in the small selection menu you can access by pressing and holding on a word in iOS.

This feature just changes the way you chat to your friends and passing out messages or send notes in a group.

The news comes as WhatsApp also introduced the ability to embed a previous text in your reply, like a Quote-Tweet on Twitter, forward content to other conversations and also that it would be dropping support for its BlackBerry app.

By the end of this year, the popular messenger will no longer be available on Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1 and Android 2.2 and Windows Phone 7.1.
